January first begins a new month in a new year in a new decade. This seems like the perfect moment in time to set a new intention, to dream big dreams, and develop some self care habits that will help me stay grounded and happy.

Self care is going to be the focus of my life for 2020. Those of you who choose a word for the year, in lieu of making a resolution, will understand what I am talking about. I will constantly be reminding myself that self care is important and it will work its way into my everyday life in many ways.

I think developing a self care practice is the greatest act of love I can give myself. I grew up in a christian home and was always told to love your neighbor. Very few people seem to focus on the second part of that verse, which is love your neighbor as yourself. I have found that many women find it difficult to put themselves first (me included) and often neglect their own needs. We need to love ourselves just as much as the people we look after.

There are many products available to help with your self care practices and many can be found in our shop or on our website. However, self care does not have to take much time or cost much money. I am going to start with four simple things that I can begin doing immediately. Would you like to join me? This will only take a few minutes to complete.

  1. PRACTICE GRATITUDE – Focus for a moment on your heart. Take a moment and think about one thing in your life that you are grateful for. Cost $0
  2. FEEL YOUR FEELINGS – Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. You want to feel good. Notice what you are feeling. You can learn to let go of things that are holding you down later, but for now, just acknowledge the feeling. No justification is necessary. You are entitled to feel what you feel. For now, you don’t even need to know why you feel this way, just acknowledge the thoughts and feelings. Cost $0
  3. STOP DOING – Disconnect and simply be. Turn off all the distractions and be still for a moment. Cost $0
  4. BREATHE – Take a few deep breaths and allow yourself to align with your spirit.
